What is the Abacus Tool?

The Abacus is a mechanical device used for mathematical calculations. At **BrainDEE Academy**, we use the **Soroban (Japanese Abacus)**, which is specifically designed to perform complex operations at lightning speed.

The 13-rod frame is the professional standard. It allows students to handle large numbers (up to trillions) and decimals. Each rod represents a power of ten, making the decimal system tangible and visual.

  • Heaven Bead (Top): Represents a value of 5. It is moved down to add 5.

  • Earth Beads (Bottom): Each represents a value of 1. There are 4 earth beads per rod.

How to Use

01

Setting Zero

Ensure all earth beads are down and heaven beads are up. The space along the divider bar must be empty.

02

Adding Numbers

Slide beads toward the center bar. One earth bead up = +1. One heaven bead down = +5.

03

Place Values

Work from right to left. The center marker (7th rod) is usually the Ones rod.
